Shrimp on the barbie, Shrimp on the barbie, Shrimp on the barbie!

After a 20 hour grueling flight I finally made it Down Under. It's amazing the positions your body can contort into while sleeping when you have to! The Travel Scrabble helped pass the time too. Thanks guys!

The past few days have been a mix of emotions for me. Part of me can't wait to see what's in store for me over the next year while another part wonders if I am crazy for ever thinking I could do this. I miss the familiarity of home and my friends already. I'm trying to stay focused on the day and not get too ahead of myself. I think once I make some friends I will start to feel much more confident. The time change hasn't helped. By about 7pm (4am Toronto time) I start to feel crazy and like I'm operating in an alternate reality.

For those of you who don't know, I am here with my friends Amy and Matt for a few more days. Amy is a Flight Attendent and I feel so grateful that she was gracious enough to get me here oon a buddy pass. Not only did she save me about a million dollars but having her and Matt here for the first few days has eased me into this adventure in a big way. We've been dong a lot of touristy stuff. We went to he Aquarium and to the Wildlife Centre. I have decided hands down that Koalas are the cutest animals in the world. Just try and tell me you don't agree...

In a lot of ways, Sydney seems very similar to Toronto...

Then again...
When we first arrived at the Airport, we had to wait while the cabin and our carry on luggage was sprayed with insecticide...

Which seemed highly unecessary considering Australia has more than enough deadly insects and animals that I'm sure could kick any other countries insects and animals in the ass...

Also, they don't refridgerate eggs here. Gross! Although I think I'm going to have to get over this since I can't go a year without them.
This guy was alive...thankfully behind glass. I pray that I will never encouter one in any other capacity. Although I did have a live cricket in my pants last night, which is almost just as scary. I'm lucky to be alive really.
Here are a few other examples of signs (literally) that I am no longer in Canada...

Yesterday we went to Bondi Beach...

I am not going to miss Winter at all this year. Not one bit!

P.S. I didn't poo for 72 hours straight after we left Toronto!

XO

Congrats on arriving, Eleanor! Keep me posted. I love Sydney too and have been to Bondhi beach.
Watch out for the wallaby roadkill when you do a road trip.

Go on a wine tour while you're there. There are some fabulous wineries in the region.
